Domestic Sales Specialist

Location: SPEX SamplePrep, Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Domestic Sales Specialist will support sales and marketing of our sample preparation equipment in a specific US territory. Products will include the company's comprehensive range of Sample Preparation Equipment and Katanax fluxer products used in a wide range of scientific disciplines and laboratory analysis techniques.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to technical customer inquiries
  • Sales tasks including lead generation, follow-up, quotations, and negotiation
  • Provide sales support to Sales Executives
  • Taking/monitoring orders and coordinating shipping
  • May attend trade shows, conferences and instrument manufacturer's user group meetings
  • Visit key accounts and distributors with a senior sales person
  • Ability to demo our equipment
  • Marketing support to include customer mail shots, press releases, and distributor training packs
  • Support in market research to assess and increase market share
  • Report new products and product modifications back to the company marketing group
  • Adhere to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures
  • The position may require about 30% travel
  • Other duties assigned by the VP of Domestic Sales or President

Non-Essential Duties

  • Provide support for logistics of shipping or product availability

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferable in Chemistry/Biology
  • 5+ years experience preferably in the laboratory equipment sector - alternatively candidates with a minimum of one year biological or material science lab experience coupled with an interest in sales will be considered
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical product information to both technical and non-technical professionals
  • Eager to learn the business and able to offer creative ideas on ways to continually improve it
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and preferably ACT CRM program

Inorganic Quality Control (QC) Chemist - ICP-MS

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Inorganic Quality Control (QC) Chemist is primarily responsible for the quality control of starting materials, in-process products and finished goods. The ideal candidate for this position is a dynamic individual who can work in a diverse group and handle multiple QC related tasks simultaneously. The candidate must possess extensive experience with ICP-MS instrumentation, as well as an excellent working knowledge of analytical and inorganic chemistry. This position also required hands on chemistry lab work, instrument troubleshooting and the ability to analyze and solve complex spectroscopic problems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform the daily Inorganic Production Quality Control (QC) work of raw materials, in-process materials and the finished goods, providing technical support and reviewing work outputs when needed.
  • Work closely with Inorganic Lab Manager(s) at all levels to ensure product quality and delivery schedules meet customer specifications and expectations.
  • Develop new spectroscopic methods for new products together with the QC team and design chemists.
  • Operate ICP-MS instruments.
  • Previous experience operating ICP-OES, AA and/or IC instrumentation is a plus.
  • Perform instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot production issues that exhibit special process problems.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, process, housekeeping, and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance with various regulatory and internal system requirements.
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication. Communicate exceptions to established/agreed upon schedules to all affected parties internal and external.
  • Other duties assigned by Inorganic Production Manager(s).

Job Requirements

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field is required. Higher education degrees in Analytical/Inorganic chemistry are preferred.
  • 5-6 years of method development and instrumentation operation experience on ICP-MS is required.
  • Be proficient with instrumental analysis and interpretation.
  • Previous project management experience is a plus.
  • Experience analyzing solutions with multiple analytes and complex matrices.
  • Strong working knowledge of data processing and review.
  • Solid knowledge on general quality control procedures and methodologies.
  • Hands on experience in sample preparation for analytical testing.
  • Experience with raw material digestions is a plus.
  • Good computer skills (requiring Microsoft Word, Excel, and LIMS) and mathematics background are required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills. Must read, write, speak, and understand the English language. 
  • Self-motivated, multi-tasking, ability to work alone or in a team.
  • Strong critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Methodical and pays attention to detail. 
  • Knowledge/familiarity in the areas of lean manufacturing and statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.
  • Travel is low: < 1%.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to pipette solutions for sample preparations; chemists must be able to stand at a lab station while performing various processes, and walk from station to station in performing their duties. Employees are required to be proficient in using computers to process analytical data. Occasional moving of containers containing up to 10 L (~ 20 lbs.) is also required

Manufacturing Programmer

Location: Metuchen, NJ

SPEX CertiPrep, LLC, the leading manufacturer of Organic and Inorganic Certified Reference Materials, and SPEX SamplePrep, LLC, a leading manufacturer of Sample Preparation Equipment, is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Metuchen, NJ based Information Technology Department. The Manufacturing Programmer will assist in updating and maintaining the organizations information system software. SPEX utilizes an Epicor ERP Enterprise System and several SharePoint, Access, and Excel-based applications.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work with appropriate departments to plan and implement solutions that will improve, streamline, or automate existing business processes
  • Create reports and dashboards based on customer requirements, using appropriate technologies
  • Communicate status updates to management and project teams
  • Coordinate system upgrades, including implementation of required design changes
  • Support end-users on installation and use of software including creation of procedures and work instructions
  • Troubleshoot-address and resolve numerous technical issues and managed on-going system support
  • Manage-2000 software knowledge a plus
  • Other duties as assigned by IT manager

Job Requirements

  • 4-year degree, preferably in computer science or other technical field
  • Strong knowledge of MS SQL Server databases, including writing complex TSQL queries, views, triggers
  • Strong knowledge of Excel programs including macros, pivot tables, PowerPoint and VBScript
  • Experience in data transformation and reporting using TSQL, SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-driven individual to work in a pleasant work environment

Electronics Engineer

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Electronics Engineer will be responsible for electrical designs and embedded systems programming as part of a multi-disciplinary team. He/she will also provide support for manufacturing and service when needed.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • New product development and improvements to existing products.
  • Microprocessor control and PLC control programming.
  • Design electrical boards to component level and develop interface with display screens.
  • Work with vendors to resolve quality issues and to identify new electronics components.
  • Work with customers on an as needed basis to solve specific issues.
  • Prepare design documentations and engineering specifications according to company standards.
  • Work as a team player with R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, and Management.
  • Adhere to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures
  • Others duties as assigned by VP of Production.
  • Work experience with CAD and schematic capture (circuit simulation a plus).

Non-Essential Duties

  • Provide support to Service Technician with equipment repairs and trouble shooting for electronics/electrical issues as needed.
  • Provide support to Manufacturing with electronics trouble shooting and evaluation of component quality and function as needed

Position Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering plus 3-5 years relevant expertise. (We will consider candidates with Associates Degree with higher level of relevant experience and expertise.)
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong computer and programming skills for embedded microprocessor systems. ( C++ environment)
  • Engineering prototyping skills.
  • Experience with AC and DC motors and controls a plus.
  • Good knowledge in the use of electronic testing equipment; oscilloscopes, voltmeters, power supplies and the like. 
  • Must be willing to do hands on development and testing work.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills essential.  Must be a team player.
  • Some mechanical assembly work related to building prototypes for test of electronic systems
