Assembler/Service Technician

Location: SPEX SamplePrep, Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Assembler/Service Technician will be responsible for mechanical and electrical assembly of sample preparation equipment and accessories. Also responsible for providing service support for SPEX SamplePrep and Katanax equipment.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

·         Assembly Duties

o   Assembly of electro-mechanical laboratory sample preparation equipment according to mechanical drawings and electronic schematics.

o   Test and verify that equipment meets specification.

o   Perform final quality control evaluation of equipment and document results.

o   Troubleshooting and repair of products as needed.

o   Generate and complete work orders in computer based MRP system.

o   Adhere to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures

o   Others duties as assigned by Manufacturing Supervisor or Production Manager.

 

·         Service Duties

o   Provide service support for the entire line of SPEX Sample Prep products

o   Respond to technical enquiries from customers and dealers via phone and email

o   Perform repairs, inspection, and maintenance on SPEX SamplePrep and Katanax products owned by customers and log repair record in MRP system.

o   Prepare technical documentation to assist our customers agents in troubleshooting and repairs

 

Non-Essential Duties

o   Maintain Serial Number Log Book and tracking.

o   Transfer component parts from on-site and off-site inventory storage to work station.

o   Assist with counting and tracking inventory.

o   Work with R&D personnel on product improvements and redesign of existing equipment.

o   Provide technical training to our customers and agents worldwide.

o   Assist with packaging finished products.

o   Provide feedback for new product development and improvements to existing equipment.

o   General housekeeping of Assembly and Inventory areas.

o   Use Microsoft Outlook Email and software.

 

Position Requirements

·         Minimum High School diploma; Associates Degree Preferred.

·         5 years of experience preferred in electro-mechanical assembly.

·         Ability to read, understand, and work from blueprints and schematics.

·         Ability to use standard hand tools.

·         Basic computer skills required.

·         Physical requirements include the ability to lift 50 pounds.

·         Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills essential.

Quality Assurance Coordinator

Location: SPEX SamplePrep, Metuchen, NJ

SPEX SamplePrep LLC is looking for a Quality Assurance Coordinator at its Metuchen, New Jersey manufacturing facility.  SPEX SamplePrep is leader in the design and manufacture of sample preparation equipment with 65 years of history in the sample preparation business.  Additionally, the quality coordinator will be responsible for the quality system at our Quebec City subsidiary, Katanax Inc, a leading manufacturer of electric Fusion Fluxers.

 

Overall Responsibilities

 

The primary responsibility for this position will be to maintain the current accreditation, manage and improve the ISO 9000 quality program with a focus on continuous improvement for SPEX SamplePrep, LLC and its Canadian subsidiary, Katanax Systems, Inc.  SPEX SamplePrep products include mills, grinders, presses, extractors, and lithium borate fusion fluxers and their accessories as well as XRF accessories for sample preparation and handling. 

 

In addition, this position is responsible for inspection or overseeing inspection of incoming parts as needed and working with vendors on testing and inspection before parts are released to SPEX SamplePrep.  The Quality Coordinator will work closely with Manufacturing, Shipping, Receiving, Engineering, and Sales.

 

The Quality Coordinator also acts as the Safety Administrator for SPEX SamplePrep, which involves ensuring that safety standards are adhered to, reporting any injuries or incidents, and maintaining documentation.  In addition, any regulatory requirements (including, but not limited to RoHS/WEEE and Conflict Minerals Declarations) are handled by the position.

 

Reports to President of SPEX SamplePrep

 

Key Job Functions

 

  • Manage the SPEX SamplePrep and Katanax quality programs, including internal and external audits, writing and reviewing SOP's, and training employees on ISO implementation and maintenance
  • Lead the continuous improvement effort including the Corrective Action Request program
  • Define, establish and manage SPEX SamplePrep outgoing product QC
  • Identify product flaws and design shortcomings as well as areas for aesthetic improvements
  • Identify vendor errors and shortcomings and work with vendors to eliminate identified errors
  • Specify corrections for product flaws and aesthetic shortcomings and cost down programs
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by management 

Qualifications

 

  • Degree in Engineering or Science
  • Experience in Quality Systems, ISO 9000 and Business Management
  • Ability to communicate technical product information and design improvements
  • Ability to read engineering mechanical detail drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Enterprise Systems
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis including Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments preferred
  • Knowledge of mechanical engineering, metallurgy, industrial design, assembly, and manufacturing processes preferred

Domestic Sales Specialist

Location: SPEX SamplePrep, Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Domestic Sales Specialist will support sales and marketing of our sample preparation equipment in a specific US territory. Products will include the company's comprehensive range of Sample Preparation and Katanax fusion fluxer products used in a wide range of scientific disciplines. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Respond to technical customer enquiries
  • Sales tasks including lead generation, follow-up, quotations, and negotiation
  • Provide sales support to Sales Executives
  • Taking/monitoring orders and coordinating shipping
  • May attend trade shows, conferences and instrument manufacturer's user group meetings
  • Visit key accounts and distributors with a senior sales person
  • Ability to demo our equipment
  • Marketing support to include customer mail shots, press releases and distributor training packs
  • Support in market research to assess and increase market share
  • Report new products and product modifications back to the company marketing group
  • Adhere to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures
  • The position may require about 30% travel
  • Other duties assigned by the VP of Domestic Sales or President

Non-Essential Duties

  • Provide support for logistics of shipping or product availability

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in Chemistry/Biology
  • 5+ years sales experience preferably in the laboratory equipment sector-alternatively candidates with a minimum of one year biological material science lab experience coupled with an interest in sales will be considered
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical product information to both technical and non-technical professionals
  • Eager to learn the business and able to offer creative ideas on ways to continually improve it
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and preferably ACT CRM program

Electronics Engineer

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Electronics Engineer will be responsible for electrical designs and embedded systems programming as part of a multi-disciplinary team.  He/she will also provide support for manufacturing and service when needed.     

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • New product development and improvements to existing products.
  • Microprocessor control and PLC control programming.
  • Design electrical boards to component level and develop interface with display screens.
  • Work with vendors to resolve quality issues and to identify new electronics components.
  • Work with customers on an as needed basis to solve specific issues.
  • Prepare design documentations and engineering specifications according to company standards.
  • Work as a team player with R&D, Manufacturing, Sales, and Management.
  • Adhere to all ISO 9001 policies and procedures
  • Others duties as assigned by VP of Production.
  • Work experience with CAD and schematic capture (circuit simulation a plus).

Non-Essential Duties

  • Provide support to Service Technician with equipment repairs and trouble shooting for electronics/electrical issues as needed.
  • Provide support to Manufacturing with electronics trouble shooting and evaluation of component quality and function as needed

Position Requirements

  • Minimum BS in Electrical Engineering plus 3-5 years relevant expertise. (We will consider candidates with Associates Degree with higher level of relevant experience and expertise.)
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Strong computer and programming skills for embedded microprocessor systems. ( C++ environment)
  • Engineering prototyping skills.
  • Experience with AC and DC motors and controls a plus.
  • Good knowledge in the use of electronic testing equipment; oscilloscopes, voltmeters, power supplies and the like. 
  • Must be willing to do hands on development and testing work.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills essential.  Must be a team player.
  • Some mechanical assembly work related to building prototypes for test of electronic systems
