Director of Manufacturing

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Director of  Manufacturing - Chemicals

The Director of Manufacturing is responsible for overall operations of Organic and Inorganic Certified Reference Material Manufacturing.   This position requires bringing together managerial skills, knowledge of safety and knowledge of manufacturing processes and lab procedures to ensure manufacturing operates smoothly and efficiently.  Managerial duties generally includes ownership of managing safety, quality, service and costs for both the Organic and Inorganic Divisions to ensure products from the processes meet internal/external quality specification as well as the guaranteed product delivery time.  In addition, this role will work to align manufacturing capabilities to support accelerated growth.

Job Responsibilities

·         Accountable to deliver improved results in laboratory environmental, health and safety compliance

·         Drive systematic improvements throughout the supply chain with the application of Lean Six Sigma (LSS)

·         Ensure appropriate supply chain performance through operational management as measured by customer responsiveness, delivery performance, capacity management, supplier management and appropriate inventory management

·         Drive cost improvements through the application of LSS, and maximizing the leverage of capabilities across both divisions

·         Diagnose and investigate any external and internal customer complaints. Based upon the nature of the complaints, take actions to resolve in a timely manner and take all the necessary steps for internal process improvement to prevent future occurrence of similar complaints

Pro-active involvement with local personnel and business to align manufacturing capabilities to drive local growth.

·         Manage and track in-process materials and the finished goods inventory to make sure the products are scheduled for manufacturing and delivered on time from the process

·         Manage the products’ backlogs

·         Manufacture products with planning and with stringent quality requirements while keeping the inventory to a profitable level, minimize stock-out cost.

·         Maintain Accreditations as required and focus on continuous process improvement.

·         Provide updated price information on various products to Sales and Sales support

·         Trouble – shoot the manufacturing process problems to ensure a smooth daily operation

·         Manage and lead the manufacturing teams with technical guidance & proper safe practices

·         Report unsolved process and quality issues to President in timely manner

·         Other duties assigned by President 


Job Requirements

·         Shall have advanced degree in chemistry. Emphasis on analytical field is desired.

·         Must have at least 10 years of supervisory experience

·         Lean Six Sigma Green Belt

·         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

·         Ability to develop plans to support organizational objectives such as Lean manufacturing, six sigma

·         Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint skills; 

·         Strong intrapersonal and communication skills

·         Effective time management, organizational, and leadership skills

·         Good flexibility

·         Effective planning and scheduling skills

·         Strong influential techniques

Maintenance Technician - SPEX CertiPrep

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for performing routine building maintenance tasks.  Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, painting, etc.)  Perform general cleaning.  Perform other tasks as assigned. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspects buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repair making notes and recommendations
  • Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords,  etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.
  • Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, etc.)
  • Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnished, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.)
  • Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.)  to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand power and specialty tools, dollies and hand trucks. 
  • Prepares the surfaces and paints various structures and equipment (e.g. walls, refrigerators, floors, roofs, doors, restroom facilities, etc.) to preserve wood and metal parts from corrosion and maintain a safe comfortable working environment using various painting equipment and related tools (e.g. sprayers, rollers, brushes, thinners, etc.)
  • Negotiate with vendors
  • Order parts and maintain required documents
  • May operate snow removal equipment to maintain sidewalks and parking areas
  • Keep facilities clean in appearance, removing trash as required
  • Perform other work duties as assigned

 

Position Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of maintenance experience
  • High school diploma, GED or technical school certification
  • Must hold a current state issued driver’s license without any restrictions
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English fluently
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting required
  • Knowledge of HVAC (AC/Heating/Ventilation) a plus
  • Ability to use all basic maintenance tools and equipment
  • Ability to organize and schedule one’s own work assignments based on priorities
  • Ability to tolerate a variety of environmental conditions
  • Available during non-work hours as needed and respond to emergency calls in a timely manner
  • Willingness to travel between multiple locations
  • Use miscellaneous office equipment (computer, copiers, fax machine, etc.)

Inorganic Quality Control (QC) Chemist

Location: Metuchen, NJ

Position Overview

The Inorganic Quality Control (QC) Chemist is primarily responsible for the quality control of starting materials, in-process materials and the finished goods. The incumbent must be a dynamic individual who can work in a diversified group and able to handle multi-tasks within QC operations.  The candidate must possess a good working knowledge of Analytical Chemistry and Inorganic Chemistry. This position requires hands on chemistry lab work and troubleshoot instruments and solve complex spectroscopic problems.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Perform the daily Inorganic Production Quality Control (QC) work of raw materials, in-process materials and the finished goods, providing technical support and reviewing work outputs when needed.
  • Work closely with Inorganic Lab Manager(s) at all levels to ensure product quality and delivery schedules meet customer specifications and expectations
  • Develop new spectroscopic methods for new products together with the QC team and design chemists.   
  • Operate ICP and ICP-MS instruments
  • Troubleshoot production issues that exhibit special process problems by working closely with Inorganic Lab Manager.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, process, housekeeping and company policies/procedures to ensure compliance to various regulatory and internal system requirements
  • Contribute to a positive and cooperative work environment through effective communication.  Communicate exceptions to established/agreed upon schedules to all affected parties internal and external.
  • Other duties assigned by Inorganic Production Manager(s)

 

Job Requirements

·         Minimum Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field. Higher education degrees in Analytical / Inorganic chemistry are preferred.

·         5-6 years of methods development experience and instrumentation operation experience on ICP, ICP-MS, AA is required.

·         Be proficient with the instrumental analysis and data interpretation.

·         Previous project management experience is a plus.

·         Strong working knowledge on extensive data processing and reviewing

·         Solid knowledge on general quality control procedures and methodologies.

·         Hands on experience in sample preparation for analytical testing

·         Good computer skills (requiring Microsoft Word, Excel, and LIMS) and mathematics background is required.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication and people skills. Must read, write, speak, and understand the English language. 

·         Self-motivated, multi-tasking, ability to work alone, or in a team.

·         Ability to analysis and solve problems.

·         Methodical and pays attention to detail.

·         Knowledgeable/familiarity in the areas of Lean Manufacturing, statistical process control (SPC) is a plus.

·         Travel is low: <1%.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to pipette solutions for sample preparations; chemists must be able to stand at a lab station while performing various processes, and walk from station to station in performing their duties.   Employees are required to be proficient in using computers to process analytical data. Occasional moving of containers containing up to 10lit (20 lbs.) is also required.

Key Job Functions

  • Respond to technical customer inquiries
  • Sales tasks including lead generation, follow-up, quotations and negotiation

Qualifications

  • Science graduate preferably biological/chemical sciences
  • 2+ years sales experience preferably in the laboratory equipment sector - alternatively candidates with a minimum of one year biological or material science lab experience coupled with an interest in sales will be considered
  • Proven track record of exceeding sales targets and strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to communicate technical product information to both technical and non-technical professionals
  • Eager to learn the business and able to offer creative ideas on ways to continually improve it
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point and preferably ACT CRM program
